Manu Cloud Forest Lodge

Manu Cloud Forest Lodge 4 Day / 3 Night Tour:
Day 1
We bid farewell to city life and begin our drive to the Manu Nature tour private reserve. We'll pass indigenous people and llama shepards, stopping along the way to say hello. At the southern most tip of Manu Park, we'll encounter the Acjanco Pass, offering a sweeping view of the Amazon basin. We'll take a short hike, learning about the flora of the eastern Andes. We'll look in the sky for a chance to see a variety of raptors. A leisurely day's drive ends at the new Manu Cloud Forest lodge, where we can enjoy the sounds of the Union Creek from our private verandas, or relax in the sauna.

Day 2
We start our day in the fragile ecosystem that is the cloud forest with a pre-breakfast excursion to watch the bright red Cocks-of-the-Rock display their feathers, with the hopes of attracting a mate. After breakfast, we explore the forest, looking for monkeys and a plethora of tropical birds. We continue our journey at a lower elevation to observe the habitat changes as it approaches the Amazon basin. Boarding a dug-out canoe in the river port of Atalaya, we ride on the Madre de Dios, en route to rainforest trails. Alongside our knowledgeable guide, we'll wander these trails looking for birds that live only at this elevation. We'll stay in a jungle lodge nearby the Madre de Dios River, the main thoroughfare of the Manu reserve.

Day 3
Today offers treats for the bird-lover as we'll have a chance to spot a variety of exotic birds, including the blue-headed parrot and macaw. The natural beauty of this lower elevation Amazon spot won't go unnoticed, with the lush rainforest framed by Andean peaks. We'll take a challenging hike and, along the way, count the variety of monkey species we see as well as other local mammals. After lunch, it is time to return to the port to begin our upstream canoe journey. When we return to Atalaya, we travel back to the Manu Cloud Forest Lodge, looking all the while for more monkeys and birds as we gain elevation.

Day 4
We take a last hike in the luscious cloud forest, crossing rushing streams created by Andean runoff. We enjoy a final brunch on the shore of the Union River, surrounded by hanging vines and rock hangings. We have the opportunity to go for a swim in the crystal clear waters of the river before we bid farewell to Manu and return to Cuzco by nightfall.
