Manu Wildlife Center

Manu Wildlife Center 4 Day / 3 Night Tour:
Day 1
We'll bid farewell to civilization in Cuzco and board a twin-engine plane for the half hour flight to Boca Manu, where a strip of grass serves as the regional airport. Because there are no roads in Manu, we'll hop aboard a motorized canoe and navigate down the Madre de Dios River to our rustic bungalows at the Manu Wildlife Center. We'll take an afternoon hike with our guide and will likely see a variety of the multitude of flora and fauna that inhabit the rainforest. After dinner and some time to relax, we'll take a night hike to a tapir clay-lick and climb a platform allowing us to observe these mammals.

Day 2
Our morning is devoted to bird watching as we head downstream to a large parrot and macaw clay lick. We'll watch as first parrots and then macaws eat the clay, which they need for their digestion. The afternoon includes a trip to one of the oxbow lakes for a chance to see giant otters. In the evening, we'll have a second opportunity to view the tapirs.

Day 3
Today, we'll explore more of the 30 miles of nearby trails to see how many different species of monkeys we can find, as well as experience the unique lush world of the rainforest, which are monitored by scientists at the center.

Day 4
We prepare for our departure and board the canoe one last time, for our journey upstream, back to the landing strip. We'll brace ourselves for the shock of returning to the relative hustle and bustle of Cuzco, after our magical 4 days as guests of the rainforests' creatures.
